Mia Rogers first became aware of Omnium at a career fair during the fall of her senior year at the University of California, Berkeley. As a STEM major, she knew she wanted to work in data analysis but was also looking for a company culture that would align with her outgoing personality.

“I really enjoyed meeting Data Scientists Lisa Nguyen and Keegan Morrissey (now Data Science Manager), and found them personable and easy to talk to,” Mia reported. Ultimately, Mia chose Omnium over a finance role because she sensed that the hands-on approach and team support would help her learn a great deal in a short amount of time. She proceeded to join us as an intern in July 2020, following her graduation with a Bachelor's in Applied Mathematics and Cognitive Science.

For Mia, Omnium was a way to break into a dynamic industry with a math degree as opposed to going to business school. Obviously, her instincts were excellent, as she turned down a second internship to join Omnium full-time as a Data Scientist in September 2020. Mia mentioned how even as an intern she was able to immediately make meaningful contributions - including speaking directly with clients. One project during her internship was to develop a competitive tracker, which her client uses regularly. Since that time, Mia has continued to maintain and optimize the report.

While the position at Omnium is her first professional position, Mia shared that the experience has been better than she had hoped. Though she came in knowing almost nothing about the industry, her internship was well-organized, and she quickly became comfortable with her responsibilities. Mia was able to learn on the job, even when the pandemic meant working from home. After completing the program, Mia felt well-equipped to take on a larger role.

Mia also expressed that she loves the collaborative attitude at Omnium, including the fact that she can interact with Company President Johnny Valeriote at any time. Despite the fact that the company continues to work remotely, the team stays connected. Omnium holds a virtual happy hour every week, which allows team members to get to know one another personally and discover mutual interests such as baking, surfing, and building apps.

Mia has been working from San Diego this year but looks forward to being part of our San Francisco office and meeting local clients from Amy’s, Clif Bar, and Lundberg in person in the future. We look forward to seeing what Mia accomplishes next!
